About Hotel du Vin & Bistro

The Hotel du Vin & Bistro in Birmingham gets it right, just like the entire Hotel du Vin chain. The former Birmingham and West Midlands Eye Hospital, an ornate Victorian landmark, has been transformed into a luxurious, witty, supremely relaxing establishment with the Bistro at its heart. The dining room is a romantic, low-lit, elegant space with a playful antique twist. The menu is rooted in classic European cuisine with a contemporary edge, to which head chef Nick Turner adds his own inventive selections each day. Of course the finest, freshest produce is used. And the 500-strong wine list is breathtaking, with an impressive array by the glass.

We booked our table at Hotel du Vin Birmingham as we wanted something a little special on a Saturday night and we were not disappointed. The venue itself is a fairly small and intimate room. Beautiful old wine bottles on display, tea lights, candles and decedent 'antique' dining furniture, you get a real feel of being in an upper class French bistro. The food was delicate, very tasty and wonderfully presented, with a fairly wide choice on the menu. We will definitely be making a return visit.

lively atmosphere attentive staff food very good

HdV Bistro, Birmingham - good food, great location

Very enjoyable meal with friendly attentive service. Ideal for either business or intimate dining.

Lovely place... Great service and delicious food!

My friend and I had lunch at the Hotel Du Vin in Birmingham City Centre. The hotel/restaurant is in a conversion from the Old Eye Hospital which is very interesting. We enjoyed our meal and the service was good.

Hotel du Vin bistro in Birmingham is an excellent venue for a business lunch. Great decor and fantastic butternut ravioli! Would recommend it highly

Hotel du Vin has a great atmosphere and a big favourite of ours in the centre of Birmingham

Hotel du Vin, Birmingham - Always great food, great service and ambience.

Food and service at the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham is excellent.

We went to Hotel du Vin for a friend's bday - four of us had the food for thought menu and it was "okay" - choice was limited, i had mackerel to start with which was well cooked but rather bland - needed lemon juice which i asked for - my second of cod and chips was fine and tasty. the others had soup which they said was excellent and parma ham (nothing special) - all in all a good value meal and i have to say very attentive service!!!

We did the 2 courses for £35 inc wine. Food was ok, we got the wrong menu and some extra items we didn't order made it onto our bill. The niggles were fixed, all in all it was reasonable.

A very enjoable lunch with good service

Lovely venue. The food was very nice, but the vegeterian options were limited. The staff were very courteous, however, the service got a quite slow as the restaurant became busier.

Hotel du Vin and Bistro at Birmingham was great. Had a lovely time. The food was good and really liked the ambience of the restaurant. £35 for 2 courses, bottle of wine and coffee for 2 people can't complain!

Decent effort.

An enjoyable evening. The bar was rather busy and noisy for a pre-dinner drink as there was some sort of function on in the back of the hotel but everyone seemed to be in the bar first! Good menu and service and the meal was good. A little expensive in comparison to other similar venues. We did not eat off the set menu we had booked for through Top Table as it was very limited choices.

This is much better than you might expect a hotel restaurant to be but that is generally true of the Hotel du Vin chain. The Birmingham branch has always been a popular venue for the business community and has maintained its standards for the decade or more since it opened. Very good bistro style food in a colourful dining room in the former Eye Hospital and, of course, an excellently varied and good value wine list.

The bistro at Hotel du Vin in Birmingham is everything we expected, from excellent service to great food. My partner and I dined from the Food for Thought menu - very limited choice but at £35.00 for 2 courses, bottle of wine and coffees - this offered great value. Would recommend this to anyone looking to experience fine dining at a reasonable price. Will visit again.

Reasonable food and service.
