About StageSide Bar & Restaurant

StageSide Bar & Restaurant in Birmingham, across the street from the Hippodrome, is the place where Brummie theatre-goers, music-lovers and actors congregate for pre-theatre meals and post-show cocktails and critiques. Non-theatre goers can enjoy the food and atmosphere best on Friday and Saturday evenings after 7.30pm. Located opposite on Thorp Street, StageSide is a warm, buzzy and informal brasserie-style restaurant with burgundy walls and black leather chairs, that is often filled with cast and crew members for drinks and dinner. And it is a favourite spot with both tourists and holidaymakers to Birmingham's bustling Chinese Quarter. The modern European menu at StageSide changes weekly, and sample dishes include the grilled sardines on toasted onion bread with a spicy tomato salsa; terrine of confit duck leg, homemade chutney, crusty bread; the handmade beef chilli and coriander burger with tomatoes, Dijon mustard mayonnaise and fries; and crème brulée with shortbread biscuit. StageSide’s wine list is well-chosen and offers a good selection of reasonably-prices wines.

Superb meal, Haddock was in the lightest batter I have ever tasted!

Great place just before going to hippodrome theatre as close by. The food was lovely and tasty and staff very pleasent.

stageside bar and resturant good food good service great atmosphere

A very convenient venue for a pre theatre meal. The food was delicious and quickly delivered to the table. Very nice.

Excellent quality - great service - will be back!

Really liked this venue ! Right on the door step of the Hippodrome, so ideal for a pre theatre meal. The starter we had was a homemade soup which was delicious ! We had steak for our main course, which was cooked to perfection. Highly recommended

Table was waiting andstaff were very friendly. Food good £5 av starter, £11.00 main £4.50 desert. Best was definately desert, hubby boozy sherry trifle and I had apple tart and vanilla icecrem - excellent. Toilets are a bit of a pain as they are many stairs and quite poor when you get there - shame.

As the entrance door opens into the centre of the dining seating area, the restaurant is not ideal on chillier evenings as ther would be a blast of cold air whilst you eat - freezing in winter!

Meal at the Stage Side-Bar & Restraurant in Birmingham was very good. Evenly priced and tasty. We weren't quite sure what to expect however we were pleasantly surpised by the quality and size of portions. Wine a little in the high priced bracket but nonetheless a very pleasant evening. Will visit again.

A lovely meal. Priced on the higher side so works out at approx £22+ per head plus drinks. Very good, friendly service. Toilets are upstairs ( a lot of stairs) though so worth noting if your a little infirm and, if your shy, unfortunately the disabled toilet is situated in the middle of the restaurant area so no possibility of being discreet. Still, it's handy for the Hippodrome so makes an enjoyable pre or post theatre stop.

Our 2nd visit to the Stageside Restaurant Birmingham for a pre-theatre meal. Arriving a little later than our booking time & knowing we were going to see a show at the Hippodrome ,the waitress advised us what dishes on the menu would arrive the quickest !Our haddock & salmon meals were served within 5 minutes & both were cooked to perfection ! Our pre-ordered drinks & desserts were waiting for us during the interval. Service, staff & food all excellent! The 70,s background music was fab too!

We arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes early. The waiter was so friendly and immediately showed us to our table. We have dined at the restaurant previously and due to by husbands disability had requested had requested a table in a specific area. This request had been honoured and we were thrilled. The meal was excellent. All freshly prepared and cooked to order and the service was of a very high standard with staff attentive but not pushy. A truly enjoyable bistro restaurant.

My friend & I visited the Stageside Restaurant in Birmingham before our visit to the theatre. Staff were very friendly & the service excellent. The foodwas served quickly & was presented & tasted beautiful. . .the best haddock my friend had ever tasted ! During the interval we returned for our pre-ordered desserts & drinks which were waiting for us on our table. Staff advised us when it was 7 minutes for curtain up.Excellent ! Will definitly return.whether we are visiting the theatre or not !

Excellent food, reasonably priced. Service could not be faulted. Thoroughly enjoyed!

The food was very good. we only had a main course. I had sausage and mash and my guest had fish and chips. She said is was delicious and the portions were very generous. I'd go again.

The Staff at Stageside-Bar and Restaurant, Birmingham were very attentive and the food was very good. Would have no problem recommending it to my friends and will certainly go again.

Enjoyable food and service in bright place. A better value table d'hote option would be welcome

My 5 friends and I went to Stage Side last night prior to going to the theatre. This is the 3rd time we have been there and find the waiters extremely courteous and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Also the food is very good and well presented. No hesitation in recommending this venue.

Great place to go before the theatre. Slightly away from the hustle and bustle and on our particular visit it appears to be suited to the 'grown up' crowd for quality dining. Small menu selection but offers good quality for food at a fairly reasonable price. Fish and 'thick' cut chips can be recommended, served with mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce, delicious...! Excellent service, friendly staff. Would recommend without a doubt...

Have been to StageSide before and enjoyed it just as much. Nothing was too much trouble for our waiter - my daughter was given 2 wines to taste before selecting the one she wanted. The food was plentiful and nicely cooked and presented. All in all an ideal venue for pre theatre meal - have not tried at any other time.

Stageside Bar & restaurant in Birmingham.

Our booking from table top was not received when we arrived at the restaurant but fortunately they were able to accomodate us as we were the only ones there.

Kids menu was limited but good fresh food. 1 course for £5 and 2 courses for £7.50.

Our menu was also limited but pretty good and the wine and champers good value and well chilled.

Service was excellent and couldn't be faultered. Very kind and friendly to the children.
