Great restaurant. I started with the chicken satay and had the green curry as a main. Both of which were delicious. Washed down with a cold bottle of Singha it was a great meal. I was too full for a sweet. The decor is traditional Thai and the staff are efficient and friendly and the cost is very good. I would recommend this gem to anyone who likes Thai food in a nice relaxed atmosphere
I had an early dinner at Chang Thai in Craig's Close, Edinburgh which is probably why the restruant was empty and lacked atmosphere. I had the Chicken Green curry with cocunut rice. The curry it self was avarge not a great deal of kick to it and in fairness the menu did say it was medium spicy, would have expected to be asked what level of spice did I want. The rice was not strong on coconut flavour and more a sticky rice context. So I would put it as aveerage and not rush back for seconds
Chang Thai Edinburgh A lovely, quaint Thai restaurant with lots of character, from the elephants in the window to the hand decorated tables. Somewhere to go with your partner, friends or family. This is a mid-range eatery with a rustic look.
Had a great meal here last night. I had the massaman curry which was delicious and my wife had the tofu green curry which she loved. Nice decor and friendly staff in a great location at a good price.
I had satay which was quite good. For main course, I had the green curry with beef. It wasn't the best one I had but so-so.
Chang Thai in Edinburgh - standard half decent Thai fair. Very enjoyable fot the price.
Had a gorgeous meal at Chang Thai tonight. I had the geng ped yang and my partner had a mild chicken massaman curry. Both were delicious as was the sweet bottle of rose we had to round of a lovely evening. Authentic Thai decor and lovely staff. Well recommended and i will definitely be returning again. This was our third visit and as usual we left very happy.
My friend and I decided to try out Chang Thai in Edinburgh as the reviews on toptable was very convincing. However, we finished our meal with disappointment. Instead of asking whether we would like a drink, we were just brought a glass of tepid tap water. We had a mixed platter to start with and it was missing tod man pla which seemed to have been replaced with something else but we weren't asked or advise of. The main course wasn't quite what we expected either. So we're unlikely to revisit.
Went to Chang Thai the other night with my girlfriend for dinner, had high expectations after reading several reviews. All in all we had a really good time, arrived at 20:30 and left just as they were closing at 22:30. Food was superb, had the vegetable tempura for starter which I'd recommend. We shared a red Thai curry with duck, green thai curry with chicken, coconut rice and Thai sticky rice which was more than enough for 2. The restaurant was quite quiet so there wasn't much atmosphere, the lighting was quite bright as well. For some reason we were not given the opportunity to order desert (was far too full anyway) but we should have been offered the menu. Great food, generally good service, could do with getting some lower watt bulbs though.
Had the early evening menu in Chang Thai in Edinburgh. Food was excellent as usual, very authentic and ideal portion size. Staff were very attentive and lovely. My only complaint would be that where I was sitting beside the window was uncomfortably cold. I would however recommend this little hidden gem.
Chang Thai, Edinburgh. My third visit and this time with family. We had an excellent meal with excellent service. The dishes were all well presented and the portions were just right. Speed of service was well timed and the atmosphere was relaxed and informal. My one small critisism was that the plates could have been hotter.
Went as two 20 something couples in December 2011. Firstly the decor was excellent and the restaurant was very warm and friendly. The restaurant was very clean and well run.
The food was excellent and the price was also very reasonable. I'd recommend Chang Thai, Edinburgh to anyone. Infact I've booked for our next meal already!
Visited Chang Thai on New Years eve - it was busy & we were seated by the door but v. draughty so asked to move when other diners left. As it was busy we were left waiting a long time from starter to main course about 45 mins - in fact i think our mains had been forgotten about! The wine we ordered was not in stock but we decided to have champagne instead! The food was good and the staff friendly but we both found the restaurant a bit cold!
Chang Thai, Edinburgh 3 of us visited for New Years Eve. Good meal, unrushed, nice atmosphere and location. Order and service were slightly confused, but it is definitely genuine Thai so some language challenges (and my Thai is non-existent!). Overall really nice place, good food, good value and worth another visit.
Lovely little Thai restaurant tucked down a side street. Restaurant is cosy, service very friendly and efficient but most importantly the food was absolutely delicious. So good that we have booked to go again this evening!
Really tasty food sadly the plates were cold and therefore made the food cold straightaway :o( I wasn't as bothered about this as my husband was, I was more concerned that there wasn't enough food!! I had No.22 which was a traditional Thai curry (prawns) which was absolutely gorgeous and I could have eaten 2 lots easily!! All in all the food was delicious and service excellent but cold plates producing cold food let it down
Chang Thai is the perfect place for a romantic evening! The food is great and the service is just perfect. Could do with turning the lights down a little as it's quite bright inside but otherwise it's a brilliant little place.
fantastic experience. hospitality was excellent as was the food, 10 out of 10 on all counts. The restaurant is lovely, even though it was not very busy, it still had a nice atmosphere, my wife and me had a lovely evening.
brilliant little restaurant, great service, lovely food and very tasty wine!
Chang Thai Edinburgh
Good value for money meal but not exceptional. Front area of the restaurant was busy but not full and we were surprised to be given the choice of a table either opposite the open kitchen or in an annex, outwith the main restaurant. We regretted choosing the latter as we turned out to be the only diners there and felt over attended to by the staff allocated that area and it was not relaxing.
A nice meal, good quality food and ingredients. A very enjoyable thai experience in a friendly casual environment.
Despite booking on toptable our table wasn't reserved on arrival, but thankfully a table was free, so you may wish to phone ahead to check your booking!
Chang Thai in Cockburn Street Edinburgh is a hidden gem. Lovely atmosphere and really good authentic Thai food. We were a party of 7 and order one of the banquet meals. Everything was delicious. The staff are very courteous, helpful and the service is excellent. Evryone in our party had a thorouhly enjoyable evening.
Chang Thai in Cockburn Street, Edinburgh is always worth a visit. Lovely restaurant with really friendly, accomodating staff. Food is really good and portion sizes were just right. I would highly recommend this restuarant.
We really enjoyed the food and ambience at Chang Thai in Edinburgh. The staff were very attentive and discreet.
It is hidden away down a close and never knew it was there. We will definately return when next in Edinburgh Sophie (London)
Excellent food and service. Tucked away off Cockburn Street but great value and will definitely return.
The service was friendly and prompt without being forced. We had main course and pudding. The mussamun and fruity curries were delicious, and obviously all very fresh ingredients.
The sweet, was a little disappointing, but delicious all the same.
I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. I have eaten Thai food in London, Sydney and Thailand itself and this food was certainly delicious, fresh and flavoursome.
Went for an anniversary meal to Chang Thai in Edinburgh (2 adults, 2 kids). We're quite hard to please as we're all veggie but wanted a change from our usual haunts, and somewhere that didn't have only blue cheese/mushrooms/other foods that our kids won't eat...
So this restaurant was a great find. Good choice of about 4 veggie starters and 5 veggie main courses, though less choice if you don't like tofu as this was in several of them. Food was excellent, service was friendly and helpful.
Chang Thai just off Cockburn Street, Edinburgh is a lovely little restaurant with excellent authentic food and first class service.
Chang Thai, Edinburgh was good value for delicious and authentic thai cuisine. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I will definitely visit this restaurant when in Edinburgh in future and would highly recommend to others.
We visited Chang Thai in Edinburgh during the height of the fringe festival. We arrived 10 mins early so had a little wait on our table. The food was very tasty and one of the best red thai curries I've had. Would definitely recommend the platter to share as a started as it lets you have a variety of starters. With one glass of wine and a soft drink, starter and mains the total bill came in at under £50.
Chang Thai was a lovely little restaurant hidden away and the food was amazing!
The venue was excellent and very friendly. The food was excellent value for money and totally met our expectations. The venue was Chang Thai in Cockburn Street in Edinburgh. I would recommend
I recently attended chang thai on cockburn street, edinburgh. The atmosphere and decoration was lovely. We ate from the 3 course for £15 menu and the food was of a good standard. After we ordered our pudding we had to wait a considerable length of time and were told the chef had forgotten to prepare it for us. We therefore got one desert at a time.
A pleasantly themed 'Thai' styled environment, warm, friendly, attentive staff both complemented a tasty two-course lunch at a very reasonable price.
What a little gem of a place- Chang Thai is tucked away off of Cockburn Street. Wouldn't have known about it had it not been for the advert on TopTable! Really lovely and will definitely go back.
Went to Chang Thai for a team meal. Venue was good, however wasn't overly impressed with the food. We were sitting near the kitchen and heard a largr number of microwave pings durig the evening. Food came fast and was reasonable, however was not the best thai i've ever had. Cost for food was very reasonable but imported thai beer ramped up the cost tremendously!
Cahng Thai, Edinburgh. This was my second visit and once again it lived up to my impressions from my first visit. The menu hadn't changed but was none the worse for that - still plenty of choice. Both of us found our food to be beautifully aromatic and spicy and served piping hot and fresh. The service was cheerful, friendly, efficient and unobtrusive.Quality food at an affordable price.
We were slightly late arriving at Chang Thai, Edinburgh for our lunch meal. As 7 guys on a stag we were quite noisy and chatty. The waitress was very helpful and understanding. Service was quick and efficient and the food was tasty and excellent value for money. All agreed they would go back.
Chang Thai, Edinburgh 4 of us visited the Chang Thai off Cockburn Street in Edinburgh and had a great evening. We had the banquet for 4 people which gave us a brilliant variation of food. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the waitress was very attentive. Will recommend this to my friends
Great Thai food for a great price in the heart of Edinburgh, definitely worth a visit.
This is a lovely little restaurant hidden away. Great food and the staff were very helpful.
Chang Thai, Edinburgh. Our first time here and we will be back for certain. The food was excellent. The special offer menu has about 7 starters and 7 mains with plenty to tempt even the most picky of eaters. The portion sizes are ideal and the flavours in each dish were perfectly balanced. This was my young companions first Thai meal and it was greeted with a 9/10. I would thoroughly recommend this resaurant.
If you are prepared to walk down a steep flight of steps then the Chang Thai, Edinburgh is worth the climb. We visited at lunchtime on a Monday and there were only a few other diners. The toilets were spotlesly clean. The waiter was very attentive, the plates were removed immediately we had finished eating. The food is delicious, served piping hot in particular the massaman curry is one of the best I have tasted. I would recommend this little gem and will visit again soon.
Chang Thai at 1 Craigs Close, Edinburgh is a lovely little restaurant. We were a party of 6 and ate off the early evening menu. The food was absolutely delicious and portion sizes just right. The staff were lovely, very friendly and attentive. I would definately recommend this hidden gem and I will certainly go back again.
First time at the Chang Thai in Edinburgh and I'd go back again. Only a small place - so worth booking - and one waitress who did everything... friendly and pleasant. The food was piping hot and tasty - the sharing platter starter was particularly good, and with 15% discount for booking with Toptable, a real find.
Food was good and tasty, service very prompt. Only one other table with diners, which reduced the ambiance somewhat. The spiciness rating on the menus is pretty accurate. Despite being booked through top table, and my checking this on arrival, the 15% reduction had not been applied and they then said they had no knowledge of it being bad at weekends. But in fairness this was quickly agreed.
Bit off the beaten track but worth the google search, food was fresh and service was good.
