Ondine, Edinburgh. Lunch time Food was very good. We chose mainly from the set menu and it was good value for the quality of the food. Three choices for each course so a bit limited, however, I was happy with my choice. If you were choosing from the a la carte it would have been very expensive. Wine very good and affordable. Staff attentive but not to overpowering or formal. Comfortable, warm, bright and I feel well designed restaurant.

Ondine, Edinburgh has never disappointed. Food and service are excellent, although a little more veg included, not extra, would be nice. Nevertheless we come back again and again, and visitors from abroad and even from Glasgow request repeat visits!
Food,Service and atmosphere was fantastic.
Fantastic meal at Ondine, just off The Royal Mile. We'd been here before and enjoyed, so good to get back. Great, attentive, unfussy service. Duck Parfait & Razor Clams starters were really good, espec clams as unusual. Mains of Lemon Sole (sanitised, no head!) & 1/2 Lobster (more clams) superb. Wild garlic very welcome. Even managed pudding. Lot of competition in Embra just now and Ondine more than holds its own and, despite some reviews slagging off the staff, we thought they were great.
Had a great lunch at Ondine in Edingburgh. The service was good as well as the food. the had a great lunch offer that made it great value.
Fantastic food, atmosphere & service!
From the moment we arrived at the reception to the moment we bade goodnight, the service we received was superb. The surroundings quietly understated, the staff efficent, pleasant and knowledgable made the very good meal a very very good meal. Not cheap, but certainly value for money.I hope to return......soon.
as always, excellent food
Our favourite restaurant at the moment. Service value location and attention to detail. Can't find fault
Lunch at Ondine, Edinburgh. Pleasantly received and ushered to table at window. Waiter most helpful, able to answer all queries and give discreet advice. Service nicely paced to our long lunch. All dishes well presented, portions quite adequate (two of my dishes had slightly more than expected), cooking excellent. Special occasion, not counting cost, the bill was a nice surprise. I will return as I have not found a fish restaurant of this calibre for a long time.
Ondine Restaurant -Edinburgh,
Wonderful food served by helpful, well informed staff. Will definately eat there again when we next visit the beautiful city
as always, fabulous food and service.
Ondine in Edinburgh has a great ambience and excellent service. Good wine and food. Chips were nicely cooked. Will come back again definitely.
The Edinburgh restaurant scene is really excellent, with Ondine up there with the best. The seafood menu is varied from shellfish starters to mussels; sole & a fish curry. Pricing about 25% less than London equivalents.
Another enjoyable meal at Ondine, Edinburgh. Oysters, squid and lobster were excellent - smoked haddock rarebit perhaps a little over-priced. Service as always very good.
This restaurant was so good! The service was amazing and if you love seafood you will really enjoy it. We had the roast seafood platter and it was delicious. They were a bit heavy on the sauces, the seafood speaks for itself as it is so good you see. However a bit too much sauce is not a reason not to go, it really is a winner if you are visiting Edinburgh! Be sure to book ahead though.
Ondine Restaurant Edinburgh Nice relaxed atmosphere in stylish surroundings. Staff very friendly and attentive. A more expensive option however food/location is worth it.
Booked Ondine in Edinburgh after reading review in Glasgow Herald for a Birthday treat. Was very disappointed with very overcooked squid tempura, like chewing rubber bands, also complained about tiny amount of lobster meat in the thermadore and was fobbed off with some prattle about market prices. The lobster was smaller than the ones that Lidl sell frozen for £4.99. Heard others also complaining about lobster. Overall OK, but not as good as they think they are.
We ate at ondines on Sunday, it has to be one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh, very high quality food and superb service!
We visited Ondine in Edinburgh for a St. Valentine's Day treat, and enjoyed ourselves, as always (having been several times before). My dining partner had a small issue with pieces of shell in her clam dish, but otherwise, a good lunch.
Excellent food, and nice friendly service from door to table and back again. Thoroughly recommended.
Ondine Edinburgh.Sunday lunch. Arrived early . no problem. Unfortunately Maitre Di left his smile at home. Rest of staff pleasant. Restricted menu on Sunday. No set menu so a bit more expensive than anticipated. Excellent food especially fish soup. very clean and a 6/8 private room available if required.A welcoming smile would not have gone amiss as we were about to spend £90 for 3
A super lunch experience had by all at Ondine in Edinburgh. Set lunch menu looked great but the full menu was far too tempting and like the wine by the glass not ridiculously priced. Service was fantastic -perhaps a little quick for those wanting a more relaxed weekend pace but really couldn't be faulted.
Excellent meal, one of the best in Edinburgh. Brilliant fish.
We went to Ondine in Edinburgh on 4th February for my birthday. The food was lovely, however it was served far too fast. If we hadn't sat and sipped our wine long after finishing the food, we could have been in an out in 45 minutes. This is not acceptable for a restaurant that is trying to be of a high standard. I wasn't in McDonalds so I didn't expect fast food! I did complain to our server at the end and it has actually annoyed me so much I'm about to email them also.
2nd visit.food v good though 1 fish+chips batter not v crisp -same for chips. dessert chioce a little limted. generally a v good experience but fully priced.
Fabulous food. A great welcome on arrival but experience let down by dour waiters. It does not hurt to smile and watch the table for empty glasses!
After several tries, we finally managed to get a booking at Ondine in Edinburgh and our persistence turned out to be well worth it. The seafood was exceptionally good, with the baked seafood platter particularly memorable. The service was solid and the ambiance fine. We will definitely be back.
First time at Ondine and was not disappointed. Absolutlely fabulous evening from start to finish, great way to celebrate a 50th birthday!
Special mention to Lisa on Reception and Giovanni our waiter both of which could not have made our evening any better.
One down side, too many "men in grey suits" Management I believe, purely walking round the restaurant!!!
Always a delight to go to Ondine, but things slightly below the very high bar they have set from previous visits.
That being said, still a long way ahead of many Edinburgh eateries. Busy atmosphere, even mid week in Jan.
Nice set up, ambiance and great service. Starters were great but let down a little by the main course (I had crab tagliatelle, my wife fish curry - think we would have been better just going for the more straightforward fish dishes)
Ondine, Edinburgh, as always, did not disappoint.Food was excellent, service attentive - would definitely recommend.
Lunch at Ondine in Edinburgh was not as good as it has been in the past. I had smoked salmon to begin but it wasn't what was shown on the menu as they had run out of it. This was pointed out to me as I ordered but it was completely tasteless. Main course of fish was much better. Service was good but food definitely not as good as usual. I would normally have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to friends but may caveat this in future.
Ondine Edinburgh Enjoyed our meal but nothing special.
ONDINE EDINBURGH EXCELLENT FOOD AND SURROUNDINGS, LOVELY STAFF.
Our first visit. With the exception of the impossibility of being able to park, this was a very pleasant experience. Being critical fish lovers we were very impressed. Friendly and efficient staff. Great value if you don't go a la carte. A definite must return soon.
Thanks for booking our table. Jim.
Ondine in Edinburgh continues to be the place to be seen in the city. A lively place with excellent food chices espcially for fish lovers. Wine list good too and not too expensive.
Ondine Restaurant, Edinburgh Enjoyed a lovely New Year's Eve dinner here. The food was excellent as was our waiter.
What a lovely restaurant ondine is - it really felt like a grand occasion when we ate here.Delicious oysters and fish stew - we will certainly be back
Very good food. The mussels and lobster were perfect, and the salt and pepper squid tempura was outstanding.
Service was impersonal and not attentive enough to keep up to standards with the food experience. Had we been looked after better, we would have ordered desserts/coffee.
My second visit to this venue , the first time being for lunch. Food and atmosphere very nice indeed. Quality of food all around was equal to the high standards I have read about. After a disappointing first bottle of wine the staff suggested a nice second bottle.
Ondine (Edinburgh): great service, elegant surroundings, fresh seafood, and a good wine list. Highly recommended.
Ondine Restaurant Edinburgh a most enjoyable if early evening seated for 6;15 was the only availabe booking. the restaurant was a bit noisey when we arrived this did not last long and to be expected at this time of the year office parties etc. the food could not have been better the service excellent very attentive without being overbearing or stuffy will be back
Second visit. Food was wonderful....really, really good quality and decent value. No toilet paper in the ladies' toilets was a bit of a surprise for a restaurant at this level. We were also sat for 35-40 minutes before someone took our order....other tables which had come in after were already finished with their starters by the time we even ordered. However, the food outshone the bad bits and a good evening was had by all.
Ondine Restaurant, Edinburgh. The food is excellent, fresh, interesting, but not over complicated. Mussels to start, sea bass for main, both perfectly cooked. the only downside is that it is rather expensive.
Ondine Edinburgh. Had a superb meal for my friends birthday, oysters prosecco to start then the special off the board of fish & seafood stew. Delicious! Highly recommended.
food was excellent, service great albeit a very busy evening.
Ondine Edinburgh. We were looking forward to eating here.We thought £80 for 1 starter,2 mains,1 coffee and a bottle of house wine on high side. My wife had bouillabaise at £21 - appetising, but spoilt by what tasted like yesterday's potatoes. Why spoil a good dish with a shortcut on a cheap item? We mentioned this politely to waiter. He would tell chef. No response. Again to one of floor staff - it was brushed aside. A small point, but Ondine positions itself high-end, so we left disappointed.
A very pleasant atmosphere to dine in. The food is excellent and the service was very attentive. I would definately recommend this restaurant.
Food good as ever. Service a bit fussy
